16 Days of Activism – Day 5 – November 29

day 5

Each year, countless women and children flee violence at home in hopes of finding safety in a new country. Many are vulnerable to gender-based violence in transit and even at their destination. Though men and boys are also victims of violence in migratory situations, refugee women traveling alone are at a higher risk and over half of the migrants in the world today are women.

Zonta International, together with UNWomen, has committed $1,000,000 to the Eid bi Eid (Hand in Hand) program to improve Syrian refugee and Jordanian women’s access to sustainable and decent employment, coupled with protection services and community leadership, to enable greater equality and reduced violence against women.
