December 2 – Day 8 – Women and Education in the Middle East

Extremist religious groups in the Middle East have restricted access to education for girls. Lack of education puts girls, and the women they become, at increased risk of other human rights abuses, including poverty, intimate partner violence, and access to medical
assistance. They are more likely to enter into early marriage, often with limited choice, and to die in childbirth.
