December 10 – Day 16 – International Human Rights Day

In 1950, the United Nations declared December 10 to be International Human Rights Day. Among the rights to be recognized on this day were the rights of women and girls. The Zonta Club of Guelph celebrates the incredible progress that has been achieved in women’s rights issues since that time, but there is still much to be done – see our entries for the previous 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women for information on just some of the problems facing women and girls around the world today.
There are so many opportunities to make a difference: donate time or money to organizations which provide support and/or raise awareness; participate in activism campaigns; raise awareness of issues through social media; contact your political representatives to demand their attention to the issues. These are just some of the options available. Each of us can make a difference in our own small way, and each small contribution put together will have a huge and significant combined effect.
