Congratulations to Sarah Mason, 2016 Young Woman in Public Affairs Scholarship Winner

Sarah is an active member of Centennial CVI. She was a member of the Student Link Crew and the Environment and Social Justice committee. Sarah assisted in organizing events and fundraisers such as the benefit concert for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in 2014. In Grade 9, Sarah received a scholarship to travel to Kenya as part of Me to We. It was on this trip that she discovered that not all girls get equal opportunities to an education. In Kenya, Sarah visited Kisaruni Girls school and witnessed a program that was making a difference in the lives of young girls, This trip had a significant impact on Sarah and when she returned, she organized a penny drive that provided funds toward building more schools in Kenyan communities. In Grade 10, a scholarship allowed Sarah to travel to Costa Rica where she was one of 10 youth from North America who was selected to attend a Youth Environmental Conference. Sarah is also a member of the School Board’s Environmental Management Committee. Her academic goals include studying architecture.
